Epic Games has officially revealed the first in-game footage powered by Unreal Engine 6, offering fans an early glimpse at the future of the company's next-generation technology.
Rather than showcasing Fortnite, Epic chose Rocket League as the platform to demonstrate the engine's capabilities during the Rocket League Paris Major.
The teaser trailer featured a visually enhanced version of Rocket League running entirely in real time on Unreal Engine 6. According to Epic Games, all footage shown was captured directly in-game, highlighting the engine's ability to deliver advanced visuals while maintaining the fast-paced gameplay the title is known for.
While Epic has yet to detail the full range of improvements Unreal Engine 6 will bring, the trailer showcased noticeable visual upgrades, including more realistic reflections, enhanced vehicle detail, and overall improved rendering quality. These early enhancements suggest a significant step forward for the long-running vehicular sports title.
The transition is particularly noteworthy given that Rocket League currently operates on Unreal Engine 3, making the move to Unreal Engine 6 one of the largest technological upgrades in the game's history.
Although details surrounding Unreal Engine 6 remain limited, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has previously confirmed that development is underway and that the company is actively working toward its next-generation engine platform. However, Epic has not announced a release date for Unreal Engine 6, nor has it provided a timeline for when Rocket League players can expect the upgraded experience.
With more than four years having passed since the launch of Unreal Engine 5, this first look offers an exciting preview of what developers and players can expect from Epic Games' future technology.
